Do you find life is just jumping from one predicament to another?

Over the last few years, just to keep our heads above water, we have to work longer hours, we have to multi-task and we have to take on more work.

We all have an endless list of activities and things to complete, whether it’s the weekly shopping, taking the kids to school, contacting a friend for a chat, recruiting a new staff member to join your team or completing the department’s weekly report.

Life is one great big schedule of actions and never-ending tasks.

We do our best to keep a balance of the things that we pressure ourselves to do and often find ourselves burned out.

We have to juggle our time between our personal needs and the demands of our career and we sometimes find ourselves simply overwhelmed.

Sometimes, the 24 hours that we get each day are just not enough. We encounter problems, issues, blockages and try to tackle everything ourselves and that gives us no time for our family, friends and other relationships.

The truth, however, is that life is what we make of it.

You decide the type of work you do and how many hours you work.

You decide what to do in your leisure and spare time.

But do you find your friends and other relationships sometimes come last in the pecking order for your attention and time?

I know I allow that to happen. It could be several weeks before I contact a good friend and that’s wrong, isn’t it?

I do value the friends I have so why do I act like that?

For relationships to remain relationships, we need to look at ourselves first.

We allow our good friends to come last in our order of priorities.

We allow the fact and are sometimes comfortable with the fact that we haven’t spoken to our best friend in days.

Our mind says, “They won’t mind, they know I’m busy”.

Some of us might say, “It’s about time they contacted me, anyway”

We cannot control the actions of other people. We can’t make them contact us.

A lot of our daily time is in our control and we have to work on what we can take control of and change.

So, how good a friend are you?

Are you the kind of friend who goes the extra mile?

Are you a good confidant?

Do you take your friends’ needs into consideration?

Do you make your friends laugh?

These are only a few of the many questions we can ask ourselves but we all really need to remind ourselves of the answers.

You are a good friend because you do go the extra mile, you are a good listener and confidant, you do take your friends’ needs into consideration and you make them laugh.

You are a good person and you have great friends. You deserve them.

Find time for them and don’t lose them!
