Do you really want to succeed?

To have any chance of being successful and wanting to achieve what you want in your life, you must have a personal vision.

Having a vision is about using your imagination; it is about stretching your brain to think differently. It’s about training yourself to focus on where it is you want to go, what it is you want to achieve.

A vision is important because if you can’t see yourself living your life differently, if you can’t envisage a world where your product, your service, your idea is necessary for others’ business success, then you don’t know where you are headed.

It would be like going on holiday without a destination and no road map.

You will get somewhere – anywhere – and you might enjoy the view, but you don’t know where you are, so you can never tell others how to find the location, and you can never go back there.

That may appeal to some but most of us need a map and the destination for where we are heading.

Once you have your clear vision you need goals.

Having goals is vital because they are the stepping-stones to achieving your vision. Without goals your vision remains a dream. That’s obvious, you might say, but it is amazing how many businesses fail because they don’t know where they are in the marketplace; they haven’t got a business plan and they are not monitoring their progress.

It’s the same with individuals. You may personally fail because you don’t have a plan and you are not monitoring your progress.

Have you ever watched the TV programme, The Apprentice?

There was a high level of self-belief and self-motivation amongst most of the Apprentices. There were some idiots, I know but I was confident that most them had the energy and wisdom to succeed in business.

Take some action now!

If you have your vision of where you want to be in, say, 6 months time set a precise target date and a series of small sized goals.

Do something each day that takes you that one step close to what you want to achieve.

Don’t think about it. Do it. Just spend one hour doing something today, before you retire in front of the TV or bed.

Don’t worry about making mistakes because it is from mistakes that most people learn.

Then every month review your progress, check that you are still on course to achieve what you want. Change your goals if necessary.

And remember to reward yourself when you have achieved your goals – that can be the best bit!
