Cheryl,

Having speaking confidence in groups is a big thing and it sounds like you have it. While speaking in the group most people will be looking at you and listening to you...that's the same as being on the stage!

Public speaking comes naturally to some and takes patience, practice and time for others. I get very nervous so I avoid making speeches. I'm more comfortable in my old age speaking conversationally in groups. Being at the front of the room "on stage" still gives me the willys.

Keith,

It does take practice and we have to accept the fact that it won't be perfect and we will make mistakes. Most of the audience is there to listen to you not to find faults in your public speaking performance.

Excellent advice about joining Speakers club.

Hi Andrew
Most people don't think that they could ever give a speech, they can't see beyond the fear.
I've learnt that with practice and support almost anyone can become a half decent public speaker.
The problem is convincing people that it takes practice and hard work.
Plus you have to be prepared to take a few risks and ocassionally come unstuck.
My advice? Join a Speakers Club where you can build confidence and work through the fear. No easy fixes I'm afraid.

Hello Debbie,

That's a killer sentence!

You are the only one that can say it your way, your unique way.

"Whatever it is you are the best one to deliver the message". I love this sentence. It really hits the nail on the head. I was beginning to think that what I have to say no-one wanted to hear, now I know I have to keep telling things my way, because I am the only one that can say it my way.
Thanks Andrew.

You couldn't make it up, could you?

How did the presentation go?

One day my company told me to go to LA and make a presentation at an Expo on a software that I was developing.
No choice, I just had to do it.
Part 2 was worse. The company owner got into a round table discussion on our product and he only spoke French, so I had to translate everything from English to French and then take his STUPID AND INCORRECT French answers and make him sound intelligent in English. He actually said to me as one answer "well, Richard, I really don't know but you will have to answer." No kidding?
