Where Do You Get Great Customer Service These Days?

How many times have you been in a shop or restaurant and the service provided is below standard?

I was in a high street shop yesterday and decided to purchase an item. Got to the counter and two individuals totally ignored me, carried on talking about last nights TV or something similar. No eye contact, no acknowledgement. I left the garment on the counter and walked out. Suddenly they stopped talking, looked at me walking out of the shop and then ‘blamed’ me for walking out. If you are unhappy with the service, my suggestion is to walk out. You can always find the same ‘thing’ somewhere else.

We need to act and not tolerate bad service.

The one basic thing to remember in business, is that if there are no customers, then there is no business and no business means no job!  Therefore, businesses and staff need to provide good service to us, the customers and be happy in doing so.

Nothing is more important for the customer than good service and being treated well.  If the customer feels they have received this, they are more likely to make the purchase.  No promotions or advertisements can beat good service and if a customer is happy with the level of service they receive, then they will come back time and time again to buy and recommend the services to other people.

These so-called shop assistants are getting paid for doing their job and as providing good customer service is part of their job, they should perform accordingly. However, they must be trained. The  business must have an induction-training course to ensure the high standards of customer service are met. If there is no induction, then this could have a direct impact on the service and therefore, the bottom line. If the business has the desire and are happy to help the customer, and train their staff well, they will provide good service

Therefore, in you are in the service trade, make sure you get the training needed to provide that customer service required.

Hi Andrew -

I've also been known to walk out of a store or restaurant if I'm not greeted or acknowledged. Many shopkeepers act like they're doing us a favor by being there and not realizing that it's the other way around ;) Thanks for a great post!
