‘Only 3% Of Your Staff Are Talented’

I was at a conference recently, where the CEO of a large UK Corporate stated only 3% of the company’s staff was talented. That implied 97% were not. Poppycock!

I think that if only 3% of this person's team are talented, then the hiring manager or management team isn't in the talented part.....but I don't think every person is talented in a way that will benefit the company that they work for.....some people take jobs just for the short term cash - and they misrepresent themselves to get that position. And others may be talented (and maybe this is your point) but something in their personality or environment (and this is quite often their home environment - not work) will not allow that talent to surface. It sound socialist to think you can make an apple pie out of all the apples. Some will just ruin it.....and that is when you need to have the conversation about them perhaps being more successful elsewhere. What do you think?

Hi Peggy, Thanks for taking the time out to comment.
I agree with you. I believe everyone has a talent, however, that talent may not be beneficial for the role or company and that is exactly when you need those honest conversations. A good team leader / manager will find the talent and allow the individual to use it or help them use it elsewhere. Andrew |
