    I’ve been speaking to a lot of organizations around the country and the one thing I keep hearing from leaders and employees is that complaining is at an all time high. I’m not surprised. There are two main reasons why we complain. 1. We complain because we feel powerless. 2. We complain because it’s a habit. The economy has shaken a lot of people’s foundations and we feel powerless which leads to a rise in habitual complaining.


    Everyone wants to know how to live a better life. It's a question that cuts across all social classes - from minimum wage employees to famous celebrities. They may not ask it all in the same way, but the underlying question is clear.

    From the moment we were born, we've been a slave to our emotions. Babies cry, kids throw tantrums, teenagers rebel… However, there are times when we need to rein these feelings in and learn how to control emotions.

    Concentrate On Your Responsibilities

    From time to time I have the privilege of speaking to university and professional football teams.  On other occasions, I have an opportunity to speak to coaches at local high school and college levels.  On one of these occasions, I heard former University of Texas coach John Mackovic make an interesting observation which I believe is applicable, regardless of your field of endeavor.

    Frustration!

    Let’s talk about frustration.  I read an article that quoted Professor Robert E. Bidwell of the University of Dayton’s School of Business.  He says that while frustration is a daily event for most of us, we’re not trained to handle frustration.

    In order to get what you want, you must first decide what you want.


    No Fear in the New Year

    Nine years ago I looked out into the Atlantic Ocean on New Year’s Day with fear in my heart and uncertainty in my life. I had been fired from a "dot.com" company two weeks earlier with only two weeks of severance, no insurance for my two young children and only two months of savings in the bank...

    Never underestimate the power of positive thoughts. They have the capacity to make miracles happen and turn tides. Call it whatever you want, but you can't deny that a person's vibrations have a hand on their fate.


    You are an accumulation of your habits. From how you get out of bed, how you shower, how you dress, how you shop for food and eat meals, how you exercise, how you walk, sit, and talk, how you respond to the world, how you act in front of others, and how you think; you are living out your habits.

    Hope In The Future

    Dr. John Maxwell says that if there’s hope in the future there is power in the present.  The reason is simple: If there is hope in the future, that has a dramatic impact on your thinking today. 

    This post is inspired by Earl Nightingale’s wonderful broadcast, The Strangest Secret. You might have seen ‘The Secret’ movie which, for all its expensive effects and advertising, I feel misses the mark when compared to the depth of Earl Nightingale. What follows is a summary of this famous and wonderful broadcast.

    Having a personal growth and development plan in our life can spell the difference between failure and success. After all, life is not just a series of coincidences; it is something that happens because of who we are and what we choose to do.

    Our world is a highly competitive and over stimulating place, and more and more concentration is needed every day just to stay focused on completing your daily tasks and pursuing your long-term goals.


    The Seasons of Life

    In past years, as I traveled around the country and world lecturing, one of the most frequently asked questions was about what I expect to happen over the next 6–12 months and-or even years. Well, I'm no expert, but I can share with you my thoughts. Whether it is preparing for the next few months or the next several years, I still believe there are overriding principals that we should follow and be led by. So I'd like to devote my message this week and next to my view of the period of history we're in now and how it relates to words I wrote almost 30 years ago in my book, The Seasons of Life. Forgive me in advance if I sound a bit philosophical, but as you know by now, I do believe your philosophy is critical to your life's success.

    I was raised during the Depression by a widowed mother with six children too young to work.  Things were tough financially.  Each one of us did what we could to make our contribution.  Five milk cows, some fruit trees and a large garden provided most of our food.  My brothers and I all got part-time jobs in a grocery store.  My sisters worked in small department stores.

    Here is a familiar scenario for all of us; you may even be going through something like this right now: You have an exciting goal in mind, you've done your homework, you think you're amply prepared… but things just don't work out. You've probably had times when you thought you were doing what you were supposed to do, but you were misinformed. You thought you had it all laid out, but it just didn't work. You burned the midnight oil day after day after day, but it didn't seem to help. You couldn't seem to change the end result.
